Amanda Jakins wins the CDN Grand Prix sponsored by Assistance Dogs Australia
We were lucky enough to catch up with the talented Amanda Jakins following her win in the CDN Grand Prix sponsored by Assistance Dogs Australia.
About the win: 'It was very exciting and a little unexpected, this was our second Grand Prix, everything just came together and he really tried. After I finished the 1s I could feel that things were going well. It has been a long road so it was nice to finally get there.'
About the preparation: 'We didn't have the best lead in as we had a few competitions cancelled due to weather, we just focused on training at home with my coach Roger Fitzhardinge. We competed in a Grand Prix in February and then went to Willinga Park and competed in the Medium Tour.'
Training at home: 'I work in banking so riding fits in around that with lots of hard work, dedication and 4am starts.'
About the horse: 'We got Lochie as a 4yo, who was a little tricky and stayed in training with Gina Montgomery, and it wasn't until covid that I was given the time to take the reins and slowly work my way through the levels. Lochie loves the indoor which is great for this competition, he enjoys his treats and being the centre of attention.'
Where to next: 'State and Brisbane CDI & hoping to go to VIC in June'.
