Day 2 Round Up Otto Sport Australia Sydney CDI

One of Australia's pre-eminent dressage families has taken out two major titles on day three of the 2018 OTTO SPORT AUSTRALIA Sydney CDI.

NSW mother/daughter team Judy and Daniella Dierks enjoyed considerable success in Sydney International Equestrian Centre's (SIEC) arenas in both today's Grand Prix Special and Intermediate I CDI3* events.

Daniella started the day early with a win in the Jilli Cobcroft FEI Intermediate I CDI3* on her own imported stallion, Solo Feliz.

The combination were only the second into the arena for the class, however managed to hold the lead throughout.

Placing first with all five judges, the combination's score of 71.529 per cent was enough to put them more than 2.4 per cent ahead of second place-getters, Sheridyn Ashwood and the Fidertanz stallion, Fiderfurst, on 69.088 per cent.

Daniella said she was impressed with “Solo's” performance, particularly as he had a very early start to the day.

“I was really impressed with him, being such an early start … in the indoor with the lighting and all these other things that we have to worry about as riders,” she said.

“I really had no issues. He was on the aids, and I was super happy with his personality and temperament for that situation, because he is still quite young.”

The two will now compete in tomorrow's Zilco International Intermediate Freestyle Competition (CDI).

Not to be outdone, Judy Dierks and Diamond Star improved their score and placing from yesterday's second place in the Grand Prix test to come top of the field in the Equestrian Australia FEI Grand Prix Special CDI3* with 69.191%.

The 2018 OTTO SPORT AUSTRALIA Sydney CDI3* continues tomorrow, with competition beginning in the revamped indoor arena at 9.30am with the Agnes Banks Equine Clinic FEI Young Rider Freestyle (CDI-Y) competition.

The day is set to be a busy one, with eventing dressage and jumping competitions taking place in the outdoor arenas, and guest New Zealand rider Vanessa Way putting the dressage stars of the future through their paces in the Young Horse Finals.

The evening also features a full program of entertainment in the indoor arena, with the quadrille competition beginning at 6.30pm followed by the ever-popular main event, the Equestrian NSW Grand Prix Freestyle competition (CDI), starting at 8pm.
